New technology that can assist the blind in everyday life was on display at the statewide convention of the American Council of the Blind of New York in Yonkers this weekend.
Hundreds of sight-challenged individuals and advocates shared what they are doing to advance services for the blind during the four-day convention Oct. 8-11 at The Courtyard by Marriott in Yonkers. The convention included a demonstration on self-driving vehicles that have special features for the blind, including extra room for service dogs, the ability to control everything through the app, and more. Free Ray-Ban Meta AI eyeglasses were also distributed to blind veterans.
Westchester ACBNY leaders Martin Cahill and Rodney Stanford and Board member Maria Samuels, Executive Director of Westchester Disabled on the Move, were among the conference attendees.

About the Westchester Council for the Blind
The Westchester Council of the Blind of New York (WCBNY) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) dedicated to improving the lives and enhancing the independence of blind and visually impaired residents of Westchester, the Lower Hudson Valley, and beyond. We do this primarily through socialization and peer-to-peer support among our members, and through advocacy. On that point, WCBNY works with local municipalities, and especially with Westchester County on important local topics. We work through our state organization, the American Council of the Blind of New York (ACBNY), and through our national organization, the American Council of the Blind (ACB).
