Yonkers Man Indicted for Two Felonies for Slashing Ex-Girlfriend

Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced today that a Yonkers man was indicted for slashing his ex-girlfriend’s face and body with a box cutter during a July 2026 attack in Tarrytown.

The defendant, Julio Murillo, 40, was arraigned Thursday before Judge Susan Capeci in Westchester County Court on the following charges:

• Two counts of Assault in the First Degree: Class B Felony

• Two counts of Assault in the Second Degree: Class D Felony

• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree: Class A Misdemeanor

The defendant pleaded not guilty and is currently being held on bail, which was set at $20,000 cash, $50,000 bond, and $100,000 partially secured bond. He is due back in court on Dec. 17, 2026.

DA Cacace said: “The extreme violence this defendant allegedly inflicted on a former intimate partner, someone he claimed to care about, is reprehensible. No one should ever have to live in fear for their physical safety in a relationship or after it ends. Today’s arraignment comes at the start of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, observed each October to raise awareness about the devastating impact of domestic violence and unite advocates nationwide in our shared determination to end this scourge. We remain committed to ensuring that survivors know they are not alone, holding offenders accountable, and working with our law enforcement and community partners to break the volatile cycle of domestic violence.”

On July 2, 2026, at approximately 9:30 p.m., it is alleged that the defendant went to a location in Tarrytown where the victim was residing and, after an attempt to reconcile their relationship was unsuccessful, used a box cutter to slash the victim’s face, thigh, and hand. The victim subsequently called 911.

The Greenburgh Police Department responded to the scene, where they found the defendant hiding in the bathroom and placed him under arrest. Officers also recovered a box cutter from the defendant’s person.

The victim suffered a laceration to her face that resulted in permanent scarring; a deep laceration to her thigh that penetrated and exposed muscle tissue; and lacerations to her hand that resulted in nerve damage and limited strength and mobility.

The Greenburgh Police Department handled the investigation.  The case is being prosecuted by Special Prosecutions Co-Division Chief Wendy Parra.
