Well… sometimes you do look back. Usually when you’re watching your BMW head to the impound lot.
On this episode of Find Out Friday, one driver decided a busy Yonkers roadway was the perfect place to practice his donut skills with his mom’s car. The result? An investigation, an arrest warrant, eight summonses, an impounded BMW M3, and a $1,600 bill in tow and storage fees before the car went home. We’ll give credit where it’s due… it was actually a pretty solid donut. Unfortunately, the location was a bad choice.
Now before anyone says we’re out to ruin the car scene and stop people from enjoying having fun… we’re not. Truth is, a lot of us at YPD are car enthusiasts too. We appreciate a clean build, a well-maintained ride, and the passion that comes with car culture. Most enthusiasts enjoy their cars responsibly and represent the community well.
But when a few bad apples decide public streets or city parks are their personal track, it brings unwanted attention to everyone else and makes life harder for the people doing it the right way. Which then means that we have to show up and ruin some people’s day.
That said, some people are genuinely excited to see us. Shout-out to our guy Emerson – always happy when YPD rolls in, and can appreciate that we’re just doing our job.
We all know by now that public roads aren’t the place for burnouts, donuts, drifting, stunting, takeovers, or exhibition driving. Besides putting innocent motorists and pedestrians at risk, the consequences can be expensive and can leave you without your car for a while.
If you choose to do this in Yonkers, don’t expect us to overlook it. You may get away that night, but that doesn’t mean you got away. Our officers and investigators are patient. Eventually, we’ll catch up with you… and you’ll end up on our page as the butt of the joke.
Save it for the track or private property. Keep it safe. Don’t be the reason your car ends up in the impound lot.
