As students and families begin the new school year, New York State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins helped distribute more than 600 backpacks across her district.
Backpacks were distributed to students and families in Yonkers, Greenburgh, and Mount Pleasant through local organizations and community partners, including the Yonkers YWCA, Westchester EOC, Family Service Society of Yonkers, Family Ties, Theodore D. Young Community Center, St. Teresa of Avila Church, and other community groups.
The backpack donations support local back-to-school events and resource fairs throughout the district, helping connect families with school supplies and other resources as the new academic year begins.
“Every child deserves to begin the school year with the tools they need to feel prepared and confident. I’m grateful to the community organizations and volunteers who work throughout the year to support our young people and their families. My thanks to MSG Entertainment, the Hispanic Federation, and Melissa Hillard for their partnership on this initiative,” said Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. “I wish all of our students a successful and exciting school year ahead.”
