County Legislator Nolan: No plans for lithium-ion battery facility on 1100 Saw Mill River Road

From County Legislator James Nolan:

On Aug. 15:

This past week, I personally witnessed significant activity at the property in the Homefield section of District 15 where a lithium-ion facility has been proposed. I also heard concerns from constituents who noticed the same activity.

I contacted Councilman Tim Hodges and asked that the City of Yonkers look into what was happening.

The Yonkers Building Department confirmed that nothing has changed and no work had been approved. After we requested an inspection of the property, inspectors responded and issued a summons for work being performed without approval, along with a STOP-WORK ORDER.

Thank you to Councilman Hodges for working together with me and to the City of Yonkers for taking action.

Let me be absolutely clear: the property has not been sold or rented for the proposed facility, and no approval has been issued for a lithium-ion facility at this location.

I will continue monitoring this closely and fighting alongside the residents of Homefield.

Our position has not changed: We do NOT want this lithium-ion facility in Yonkers or District 15

On Aug. 19:

UPDATE ON 1100 SAW MILL RIVER ROAD PROPERTY!

After some initial miscommunication, I have received an update regarding the property at 1100 Saw Mill River Road in Yonkers.

The property has been sold to a local contractor with permission to clean up the site. Currently, there are no plans to build anything on the property, and the new owners plans to use it for parking construction vehicles.

Most importantly, I have been informed that the new owners will NOT be constructing a lithium-ion battery facility at this location.

I want to thank the new owners for investing in Yonkers and for recognizing the concerns about placing this type of facility in the area.

I also want to thank the residents and elected officials who spoke up, raised concerns, and made sure the community’s voice was heard. This demonstrates what can happen when residents and their representatives work together and stay engaged.

As always, if you have a question, concern, or issue—whether you live in District 15 or not, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m always ready to help.
