Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins said: “The opening of Scorpios is another exciting step in Playland Park’s continued comeback. We’re proud to bring a new ride to one of Westchester’s most beloved destinations, giving families and visitors another reason to spend the day making memories together. Whether you’re a longtime Playland fan or visiting for the first time, we invite everyone to come experience the excitement and take a ride on Scorpios.”

Metallbau Emmeln, the ride manufacturer, describes Scorpios as a classic “pirate ship” amusement ride that features an open passenger space in the shape of a ship, providing a thrilling, pendulum-style back-and-forth motion and seats 42 passengers. The custom scorpion-themed ship, paired with its old Mediterranean-inspired design, gives the ride a unique look and feel that elevates the overall experience. The ride is powered by AC technology, which ensures jerk-free and full acceleration. Riders must be 50” to ride alone and those between 43” and 49” must be accompanied by a supervising companion 14 years of age or older.

Westchester County Parks Acting Commissioner William Bland said: “Scorpios is a wonderful addition to Playland’s collection of attractions and enhances the experience of our guests. As we continue investing in the park and building on its historic legacy, we’re excited to welcome visitors to enjoy our newest addition.”

Scorpios joins the park’s lineup of classic rides, which includes the Dragon Coaster, Grand Carousel and Sawmill River.

Beyond the amusement park, visitors can cool off at Playland Beach and Pool, open daily through Labor Day, Monday, September 7 from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; last entry is 6 p.m., weather permitting. Admission and parking fees apply.

The fun continues every Friday night with fireworks at 9 p.m.
