34th Annual Swim Across America – Long Island Sound Open Water Swim Makes Waves to Fight Cancer July 25

Goal to raise $2.5 million for cancer research – open water swim offers 2K, 5K and 10K swim distances, a half-mile same-day pool swim and eight additional Westchester pool swims throughout the Summer

Long Island Sound in Westchester County, New York, will celebrate its 34th annual open water swim on Saturday, July 25, 2026, in Larchmont, New York. The event brings together close to a thousand swimmers, volunteers, Olympians, spectators and supporters each year to raise funds for cancer research, care and patient support services in the New York City area. Since its first Westchester County swim in 1992, Swim Across America – Long Island Sound has raised more than $32 million for its local beneficiaries, which include Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Columbia University Medical Center, Weill Cornell Medicine and Cancer Support Team. Following a record-breaking fundraising year last year, the 2026 open water swim will be held on July 25, along with eight additional community pool swims, that run from June 26 through August 1. All events support the organization’s mission to “Make Waves to Fight Cancer.” Swimmers, land and water volunteers (boaters, kayakers, paddle boarders) interested in participating in either the July 25th open water swim or any of the pool swims can register at swimacrossamerica.org/longislandsound.

The July 25 Swim Across America – Long Island Sound open water swim is a point-to-point swim that begins at the Larchmont Yacht Club, 1 Woodbine Ave. in Larchmont, New York, and finishes at Larchmont Shore Club, 1 Oak Bluff Ave. in Larchmont. Swimmers can choose 2K, 5K and 10K distances. The 10K swimmers swim across Long Island Sound starting from Glen Cove, New York (Long Island) to the Larchmont Shore Club. The minimum fundraising requirement is $500 for 2K and 5K swimmers and $5,000 for the 10K swimmers.

“Every year, our Swim Across America – Long Island Sound community reminds us that this event is about hope, action and the power of coming together,” said Jean Fufidio, event director of Swim Across America – Long Island Sound. “Whether someone swims 10K, 5K or 2K in Long Island Sound, joins a pool swim, participates virtually through SAA My Way, or comes out to volunteer on the land or water, every stroke and every dollar helps support the doctors, researchers and caregivers who are making breakthroughs in cancer care.”

For those who prefer a pool to open water, Swim Across America – Long Island Sound also offers a half-mile same-day pool swim at the Larchmont Shore Club, as well as swims at other Westchester County swim and country clubs throughout the summer.  The 2026 Swim Across America – Long Island Sound pool swim schedule includes: NYAC Travers Island Pool Swim, New York Athletic Club, Travers Island, Pelham, N.Y., Friday, June 26, 6 to 8:30 p.m.; Westchester Country Club Pool Swim, Westchester Country Club, Rye, N.Y., Saturday, July 11, 7 to 9:30 a.m.; Coveleigh Club Pool Swim, Coveleigh Club, Rye, N.Y., Wednesday, July 15, 3 to 5:30 p.m.; Orienta Beach Club Pool Swim, Orienta Beach Club, Mamaroneck, N.Y., Saturday, July 18, 6:15 to 9:30 a.m.; Chappaqua S&T Club Pool Swim, Chappaqua Swim & Tennis Club, Chappaqua, N.Y., Sunday, July 19, 8 to 10:30 a.m.; Leewood Golf Club Pool Swim, Leewood Golf Club, Eastchester, N.Y., Tuesday, July 21, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.; Larchmont Shore Club Half-Mile Pool Swim, Larchmont Shore Club, Larchmont, N.Y., Saturday, July 25, 8 to 9:30 a.m.; Scarsdale Golf Club Pool Swim, Scarsdale Golf Club, Hartsdale, N.Y., Thursday, July 30, 4 to 6 p.m.; and Lake Isle Club Pool Swim, Lake Isle Country Club, Eastchester, N.Y., Saturday, Aug. 1, 7 to 9:30 a.m.

“Cancer knows no boundaries, and neither does the commitment of this community,” Jean Fufidio noted. “We are grateful for every swimmer, volunteer, donor, sponsor and supporter who helps us fund cancer research and care right here in New York. Together, we are making waves toward a cure – and together, we are going to raise more than $2.5 million dollars this year for supporting critical cancer research.”

Money raised through Swim Across America – Long Island Sound stays local, supporting cancer care and research grants at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Columbia University Medical Center, Weill Cornell Medicine and Cancer Support Team.
