
On May 3, 2026, at approximately 2:49 a.m., New York State Police in Somers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling eastbound on Interstate 84 in the town of Southeast for a violation of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
While interviewing the driver, Jayden A. Samaniego, 21, of Danbury, Connecticut, Troopers observed a Glock 9mm handgun in plain view. The firearm was loaded with a magazine containing multiple rounds of ammunition.
Samaniego was arrested and charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Firearm in the 2nd Degree (Loaded Firearm), a class C felony.
Samaniego was arraigned in the Town of Carmel Court and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Southeast Court on May 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
