MOUNT VERNON MAN INDICTED FOR MURDER OF NYC SCHOOLS EMPLOYEE

Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced that Joveair Brice, 28 years old of Mount Vernon, was arraigned today on an indictment charging him with Murder in the Second Degree, a class A felony.

Brice was arraigned before Judge George Fufidio. He remains remanded to Westchester County Jail.

On or about March 20 and March 21, 2026, the defendant struck 33-year-old Lisa Grier, of Mount Vernon, in the head with a hammer multiple times, killing her. Ms. Grier was the defendant’s girlfriend and was employed by the New York City school system as a paraprofessional.

DA Cacace said: “Combating domestic violence remains a top priority for our office. This indictment serves as a reminder that despicable acts like this will not be tolerated. We will continue to utilize every resource available to deliver justice to all victims.”

This case was investigated by the Mount Vernon Police Department.

The case is being prosecuted by Major Case Bureau Deputy Chief Elizabeth Shumejda and Assistant District Attorney Marissa Morra-Wynn.
