Lansdowne Rugby Football Club New York is proud to host the Second Annual Johnny Triangles Rugby Tournament on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, NY. The tournament brings together rugby clubs, families, and community members from across the region for a day of competitive matches, camaraderie, and celebration of the values that define the sport.
The Johnny Triangles Tournament honors John Giordano, a beloved Lansdowne RFC teammate and longtime member of the club. Johnny suffered a life-altering workplace accident on February 7, 2024, when he fell 80 feet down a boiler shaft while on the job at the Bowline Power Plant in West Haverstraw, NY. He sustained severe brain trauma and spent months in a coma. Today, Johnny continues his rehabilitation in Connecticut, supported by his family, friends, and the Lansdowne rugby community.
The inaugural Johnny Triangles Tournament, held in 2025, welcomed more than 500 attendees and 20 clubs competing across five divisions, including Youth, Senior, and Old Boys. Building on that success, the second annual tournament is expected to draw an even larger field, showcasing high-level rugby while reinforcing the deep sense of connection and solidarity within the rugby community.
Founded in 1993 by Irish immigrants and named after the historic Lansdowne FC in Dublin, Lansdowne RFC NY has been a fixture in the Yonkers and Woodlawn communities for more than 33 years. The club brings together players of all backgrounds and experience levels and is deeply committed to fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong friendships through rugby.
Beyond senior competition, Lansdowne operates a robust youth rugby program serving more than 100 children and families, led entirely by volunteer coaches. The program emphasizes skill development, confidence, discipline, and inclusion, ensuring the club’s values are passed on to the next generation.
