Rev. Kym McNair
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins has announced Reverend Kym McNair as Director of Faith Based Initiatives. McNair is an ordained clergy leader, educator and community organizer with more than 15 years of experience building partnerships between faith communities, nonprofits and local organizations across Westchester County. In her new role, McNair will seek to enhance the relationship between Westchester County Government and local houses of worship.
McNair offered an invocation at County Executive Jenkins’ inauguration and has spoken on panels, facilitated workshops for religious and civic organizations across Westchester, and assisted congregations with incorporating faith-based, anti-oppression principles into their ministries. She is a contributor to “We Pray Freedom: Liturgies and Rituals from the Freedom Church of the Poor,” and has received numerous accolades from religious, civic and government agencies for her work in advocating for the basic human right to be free from the imposition of power and control, and engage in relationships that uphold the principles of respect, equality and safety.
Jenkins said: “Having a solid Director of Faith Based Initiatives is not just about promoting religion – it is about partnership, trust and bridging the gap between faith-based organizations and County government. Faith communities are often the first place people turn to in a time of need, and partnering with our local houses of worship helps connect us with members of our community where they feel most comfortable. I am confident that Kym will help our religious and cultural communities feel included and supported in Westchester County.”
McNair said: “I am shaped by the love and care of people who taught me how authentic connection has the power to transform. I’m grateful for the opportunity to uphold this faith-filled legacy and I look forward to continuing the work that I have been called to do with the people of Westchester.”
McNair most recently served as Senior Director for Social Transformation at My Sisters’ Place, where she led a team of Community Trainers engaged in County-wide education, prevention and engagement efforts aimed at developing young leaders, supporting service providers, and addressing domestic violence and human trafficking.
