Westchester Letter Carrier Honored for Heroism

Christopher Perez

The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) recently honored a group of extraordinary letter carriers from across the country with its annual Heroes of the Year Awards for their quick thinking, bravery, and dedication to community service. These letter carriers went above and beyond their daily duties, stepping in to save lives, respond to emergencies, and protect their communities in moments of danger.

“These letter carriers delivered courage, astute thinking and care when it mattered most,” said NALC President Brian L. Renfroe. “Their actions remind us that heroes are often right in our own neighborhoods.”

One of those honored was Christopher Perez of Westchester Merged, NY Branch 693. Perez saved a resident from a 20-foot house fire in a senior community in Yorktown Heights. Seeing smoke while on his route, Perez checked on neighbors and discovered a man trapped inside. Climbing onto the building, he helped the man safely escape despite the intense flames. Perez, a four-year letter carrier, has a history of helping vulnerable customers, including performing CPR in a previous emergency.
