Mount Vernon To Unveil, Powerful Portrait — Fmr. Comptroller Maureen Walker Honored As Dignitaries Descend On City Hall!
Mount Vernon officials have announced that on March 24 at 6 p.m., the City Council Chambers will host a special ceremony to unveil and install the portrait of former City Comptroller, the Honorable Ms. Maureen Walker.
According to sources, dignitaries from across the United States are expected to attend the highly anticipated event. During her tenure, Walker was credited with maintaining the city’s multimillion-dollar budget and establishing a financial “rainy day” fund to help safeguard Mount Vernon during emergencies.
Her presence at City Hall is still deeply missed by many residents and colleagues. Community members — especially longtime Mount Vernon “Knights” — are being encouraged to attend the ceremony alongside Walker’s family as they celebrate her legacy and honor HERstory during Women’s History Month.
The event is expected to draw a large crowd as the city pauses to recognize one of its respected financial stewards and trailblazing women leaders.
