The weekend will feature free walking tours, a Tea & Talk, and the launch of an expanded and updated museum store. The Season Opening also marks an important milestone in SSPM’s multi-year commemoration of the bicentennial of Sing Sing Prison. On Saturday and Sunday, visitors will have the opportunity to join a 30-minute “hard hat” walking tour inside the Olive Opera House, running at 10 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, 2 PM and 3 PM. These unique tours will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the building’s restoration and transformation as the future home of the SSPM visitor center and exhibition galleries. “It is one thing to have the idea to start a museum; it is quite another to turn that idea into a reality,” says Assistant Director Amy Hufnagel. “SSPM has such a dynamic group of board members, donors, elected officials, economic development groups, staff and community members who are working overtime to support the work of architects, general contractors, designers, and historic preservation specialists. It takes a village to raise a museum!” Rendering of the Olive Opera House, Photo credit Nexus ArchitectsSSPM will also offer its popular Sink or Sing Walking Tours at 10 AM, 12 PM and 2 PM.
