A Gift of Time: CuddleCot™ Donation Supports Families Facing Pregnancy and Infant Loss at St. John’s Riverside Hospital

St. John’s Riverside Hospital will host a CuddleCot™ Dedication Ceremony on Wednesday, March 18th at 10:30 a.m., to honor the life of Grace Victoria Lang O’Mahony and recognize a heartfelt gift that will support families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss.

The CuddleCot™ system is a cooling device that allows a baby to remain with their family while being gently cooled in situ. This enables parents and loved ones to bond, hold, dress, and simply be present with their child without the additional trauma of separation. The gift of time — though brief — can be profoundly important in helping families begin to process their loss and create lasting memories.

The CuddleCot™ is internationally recognized for the compassionate support it provides to families facing the heartbreaking loss of a baby. As hospitals across the United States continue to strengthen bereavement services, offering families the opportunity to spend meaningful time with their child has become an essential component of care.

The CuddleCot™ was generously donated in loving memory of Grace Victoria Lang O’Mahony (May 1, 2024) by her family — Ashley, Eoin, and Anderson — in association with Ashlie’s Embrace. The family will be in attendance as the hospital community gathers to honor Grace’s memory and dedicate this special resource.

“St. John’s Riverside Hospital is deeply honored to be entrusted with offering the CuddleCot™ to our patients and their families,” said Barbara DiNoto RN, Assistant Vice President of Maternity Services. “This generous donation ensures that compassionate, family-centered care extends even into life’s most difficult moments. We are profoundly grateful to Grace’s family and to Ashlie’s Embrace for making this possible.”

Ashlie’s Embrace is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families facing stillbirth and infant loss. Through donations and advocacy, the organization provides bereavement cooling units to hospitals across the United States so families can have precious additional time to say goodbye.

The dedication ceremony will serve as a moment of remembrance, gratitude, and reaffirmation of the hospital’s commitment to compassionate care for every family it serves.

A post-event press release with photos from the dedication ceremony will be shared following the event.
