In recognition of Women’s History Month, Farma Cares will host “A Taste of Women’s History,” a community gathering highlighting women entrepreneurs whose plant based food and wellness businesses are helping shape healthier and more connected communities. The event will take place on Saturday, March 28 at 4:00 PM at Yonkers Arts, located at 216 Lake Avenue in Yonkers, New York.
The program will bring together residents, community advocates, and local leaders for an afternoon centered on storytelling, entrepreneurship, and the growing movement toward plant based food as a pathway to community wellness. Through conversation and shared experiences, attendees will hear from women whose businesses reflect a deep commitment to health, culture, and service.
Featured chefs and entrepreneurs include leaders from The Bronx Vegan Bazaar, HAAM Caribbean Plant Cuisine, Urban Vegan Kitchen’s Rasta Rant, and Electric Fixins. Each of these women has built a platform that blends culinary creativity with a mission to uplift and educate the communities they serve.
Daniel Dapaah, Co-Founder of Farma Cares, reflected on the broader significance of the work these women are doing.
“Food tells the story of who we are and what we believe about the dignity of our communities,” Dapaah said. “When these women build businesses rooted in plant based food and wellness, they are doing more than preparing meals. They are reclaiming health as a form of agency. They are reminding us that caring for our bodies and caring for our communities are inseparable acts. What we are witnessing through their work is not simply entrepreneurship, it is a quiet form of leadership that restores possibility where it is often overlooked.”
The event will highlight the lived experiences behind the businesses, offering insight into how these entrepreneurs have built brands rooted in culture, resilience, and care for their communities.
Arleska Castillo, Business Strategist for Farma Cares, said the program intentionally centers women whose work often grows organically from service to others.
“When you look closely at the stories behind many community driven businesses, you begin to see a pattern,” Castillo said. “These are women who identified a need long before it became part of a larger public conversation. They created solutions in their kitchens, in their neighborhoods, and within their own networks. Over time, those solutions became businesses. This event simply gives those stories the visibility they deserve, and invites the community to understand the depth of leadership behind them.”
The event is presented in collaboration with the National Council of Negro Women Westchester Section, Yonkers NAACP, YWCA Yonkers, Sister to Sister International, Yonkers Arts, and Young Professionals of Mount Vernon.
Farma Cares, a Yonkers based nonprofit organization, focuses on community wellness initiatives centered on plant based nutrition, food education, and culturally relevant programming. Through communal meals, workshops, youth initiatives, and community partnerships, the organization works to expand access to healthier food options while fostering meaningful conversations about wellness and equity.
A Taste of Women’s History continues that work by creating a space where food becomes both a shared experience and a catalyst for dialogue, learning, and community building.
