CITY OF YONKERS ACCEPTING 2026 NOMINATIONS FOR ANNUAL “WOMEN OF DISTINCTION” AWARD

In Celebration of Women’s History Month, Annual Awards Celebrate the Yonkers Women Who Positively Impact the Community

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced the City of Yonkers is accepting nominations for the city’s annual “Women of Distinction” Award, presented each year during March to celebrate Women’s History Month. The annual “Women of Distinction” Award recognizes Yonkers women who have served their local community and positively impacted the lives of Yonkers residents. Nominations for “Women of Distinction” are to be submitted at www.YonkersNY.gov/women.

“Yonkers takes great pride in the countless women whose leadership, service, and dedication strengthen and elevate our community,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “Whether they are educators, entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals, or community advocates, the women of Yonkers continue to make extraordinary contributions that move our city forward. I encourage every resident to recognize the exceptional women in their lives by submitting a nomination for our Women of Distinction awards. This is our moment to honor their achievements, highlight their impact, and inspire future generations to follow in their footsteps.”

The deadline to submit a nomination is Thursday, March 12; the award ceremony will be held on Wednesday, March 18 at 5:30 pm at Yonkers City Hall (Ceremonial Courtroom, 4th Floor). In collaboration with the Mayor, winners will be selected by the Mayor’s Women’s Advisory Board.

About Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month originated in 1981 when Congress passed a resolution requesting President Reagan to commemorate “Women’s History Week.” The President proclaimed the week beginning on March 7, 1982 as the first Women’s History Week and the nation continued to designate a week in March as Women’s History Week until 1987 when the month of March was officially declared “Women’s History Month.” Learn more at www.womenshistorymonth.gov.
