The Salvation Army in Yonkers needs your help. Each year, The Salvation Army provides Christmas cheer to hundreds of families through the purchase of food and new toys. Much of the money that makes this possible is through its annual Red Kettle Appeal.
No one ever wants to think of a child who wakes up on Christmas morning without the experience of opening a gift, having a meal, and enjoying family time. However, it is a reality for many of the families that The Salvation Army comes in contact with.
The Salvation Army in Yonkers is working to raise $100,000 this year through its annual appeal.
The Salvation Army, nationally, has had to rely on employees to ring the bells as opposed to volunteers, as was done decades ago. The organization views this as positive because it provides seasonal employment to many who may need it. However, it does severely reduce the amount of dollars for raised for direct assistance.
Lt. Neekenson, commanding officer of The Salvation Army in Yonkers, said there is much concern as to whether the organization will be able to raise the funds. Therefore, he is asking the public for help in three potential ways:
Make a financial contribution to The Salvation Army through the red kettles or at its office at 110 New Main St., Yonkers; donate your time by volunteering to ring the bells for a few hours to help raise needed money, or by texting “SAYHELP” to 41444 for a quick donation; or donate new, unwrapped toys for children age 1 to 12.
The Salvation Army has always relied on the public to help support its charitable work – ’tis the season to show holiday cheer to others.
