Applications Available and Accepted through February 6 at yonkersny.gov/MAB
On Jan. 7, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced the re-establishment of the Mayor’s Muslim Advisory Board, reaffirming the City’s commitment to inclusion and engagement with Yonkers’ growing Muslim community. The announcement comes ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, underscoring the importance of faith, service, and community. Applications are available online at yonkersny.gov/MAB through February 6.
“The Muslim Advisory Board will serve as an important bridge between the City and our Muslim residents,” said Mayor Spano. “As Yonkers continues to grow and diversify, it is critical that we listen and work together. Announcing this ahead of Ramadan ensures timely dialogue with a growing population across the City.”
The Board consists of six members representing each council district and one member to serve at large. Members of the board must be residents of Yonkers. Those interested in becoming a board member can apply at yonkersny.gov/MAB. Members will be chosen and convened by Mayor Spano.
Responsibilities of the Yonkers Muslim Advisory Board include:
- Serving as a liaison between the City and Muslim community-based organizations
- Providing recommendations on programs, services, and policies affecting the Muslim community
- Assisting in addressing community concerns and issues
- Offering input on matters such as cultural inclusion, public safety, education, and community relations
- Strengthening connections between the City and Yonkers’ Muslim residents
Mayor Spano will accept applications today through Friday, February 6. The Mayor’s Muslim Advisory Board joins nine other advisory boards created by Mayor Spano since 2012, many of which have implemented policies, recommendations, special events, and employment opportunities.
