The Time for Gevura Is Now!

By Eric Wolf Schoen

We have atoned for our sins on Yom Kippur. Now it is time for us to begin the year with Gevurah, a Hebrew term often translated as “strength” or “might,” but also encompassing discipline, self-control and discernment.

In Kabbalistic thought, it represents a divine quality that brings structure and justice to the world, acting as a necessary counterpart to the attribute of loving-kindness (Chesed). For individuals, gevurah brings each of us our own special thoughts.

As we go to press our representatives in Washington, DC have failed to pass a budget leaving the country in a state of flux.  The sad part of the equation is that the President and members of Congress receive their salary and the members of the Military do not. The military protects us from  danger and put their lives at risk for us and we show them no respect. I hope by the time you read this column this budget mess is over.

A new year brings with it a new diet plan to better help us meet our needs. We have tried so many before but that what the hell, let’s give it another shot in hopes we can get rid of that ugly weight.

Pain and illness must be addressed much of it following us from year to year. We help those with continuous pain to deal with it and hope this will be the year their pain will finally be over..

From my family to yours, a Happy,  healthy New Year in a year filled with Shalom, Peace!
