Petition Formed Opposing Release of Driver in Nolan Murder

Garth Cole

A petition circulated by members of the family of Michael Nolan, a Yonkers native who was murdered in 2015, against the early parole hearing for Garth Cole, has collected more than 3,300 signatures.

Cole was driving the car that carried the man who shot and killed Nolan on that fateful day in 2015 on Central Avenue in Yonkers. The senseless shooting was over a now meaningless dispute over drag racing. Cole, who is up for an early release parole hearing next month, was sentenced to five years in prison in return for cooperating with police and providing information that led to the arrest of the shooter.

James Nolan, Michael’s brother who heads the foundation named for his lost sibling, has started a petition to oppose the early release of Cole. “I have started a petition to make sure Garth Cole doesn’t get out one day early from his sentence, and to make sure that he serves every day that he was sentenced for his role in the death of my brother, Michael, who unfortunately received a lifetime sentence due to Cole and his friends,” said James Nolan.
