No Kid Hungry today reminded New York families to check their eligibility for Summer EBT and apply before the September 4 deadline. The program provides much-needed relief for households by helping cover the cost of groceries when school is out, ensuring children can enjoy healthy meals year-round.

Summer EBT gives eligible New York families a one-time installment of $120 per child on a Summer  EBT card, which can be used to pay for groceries. Now in its second year, Summer EBT will provide approximately $250 million in grocery benefits to more than 2 million children in every corner of the state. New Yorkers can check their eligibility and submit an application by visiting summerebt.ny.gov

“Families are stretched thin right now as grocery bills across our state continue to climb. Summer EBT provides direct support to eligible families and makes sure that kids can have healthy meals any time of year – even when school is out. The deadline to apply is almost here, and I encourage every family to check their eligibility and apply before September 4,” said Rachel Sabella, Director of No Kid Hungry New York.

Rising costs are continuing to put healthy meal options out of reach for many New York families. Earlier this year, No Kid Hungry New York issued a poll, which showed that 86 percent of New York households said the cost of food was rising faster than their income. Fifty-three percent of New Yorkers also reported that their debt has increased in the past year due to the cost of food
