Yonkers Community Pushes Back on Proposed Cannabis Store on McLean Avenue
Proposed site of new cannabis dispensary at 865-867 McLean Ave

In a recent State of the City address, Mayor Mike Spano asked why there were so many Cannabis Dispensaries along Central Avenue. The Mayor makes a good point, which is now being discussed by many Yonkers residents: Are there too many Cannabis dispensaries in Yonkers, or do they need more?
The latest applicant for a new legal Marijuana store is Green Zephyr LLC, who has an application filed with the NYS Office of Cannabis management to open at 865-867 McLean Avenue.
County Legislator and Yonkers resident David Tubiolo, wrote a letter to the NYS OCM in June, expressing his opposition to the dispensary. “I write you to join with my community partners and stakeholders to voice our opposition to the proposed application filed by Green Zephyr LLC for the opening of a cannabis dispensary located at 865-867 McLean Avenue.
“Although I fully respect the legal process by which your office operates, I have very serious concerns about the location of this dispensary. The location is very close to bars, restaurants, places of worship and schools. It is my hope that you evaluate the application before you,” writes Tubiolo.
We will delve more into the application at 865-867 in a future issue, but the larger question is how many dispensaries in Yonkers is enough and can the city do anthing about it?
People in the marijuana business will tell you that the market will dictate whether Yonkers can sustain another legal pot shop. Opponents of legal pot in Yonkers will say that they can’t stand the smell of marijuana and smell it all over the city.
In my travels delivering this paper, I have found the following Cannabis dispensaries open in Yonkers.
1-The Plant -2595 Central Park Ave, on the Yonkers-Scarsdale border.
2-Central Budz-2247 Central Park Ave, Yonkers
3-Budr Cannabis-887 Yonkers Ave, Yonkers
4-NUG Yonkers 2371 Central Park Ave, Yonkers
5-Sunny Grams, 48 Ravine Ave, Yonkers,
6-Cloud Nine- 305 Saw Mill River Rd, Yonkers
#1, 2, and 3 are very close to each other on CPA. This is what the Mayor was referring to. #3 is very close to the proposed location on McLean. If you know of more legal dispensaries, let us know. Much more on this issue in future weeks.
