In 1949, the Congress, by joint resolution designated June 14 of each year as “Flag Day” and requested that the President issue an annual proclamation calling for its observance and for the display of the flag of the United States on all Federal Government buildings, and called upon all citizens of the United States to display the flag during that week.
The North Salem Republicans celebrated Flag Day with an event attended by Congressman Mike Lawler, County Executive candidate Christine Sculti and Braille Diaz, candidate for County Legislator in the 2nd district.
Diaz posted the following on Facebook, which drew our interest. Statement on the “No Kings” Protest and the Contrast with Patriotic Flag Day Celebrations
“This past week, while I had the honor of attending patriotic Flag Day ceremonies across our district — including in Mt. Kisco, Bedford Hills, and North Salem — the Democrat Party once again showed its true colors. While residents, veterans, and community leaders came together to celebrate the symbol of our nation’s unity, sacrifice, and freedom, Democrats were busy dressing up as clowns and staging yet another divisive protest under the banner of “No Kings.”
“Let me be clear: this was not a demonstration of principle, but a performance of disunity, disrespect, and chaos. I witnessed firsthand the shameful actions of Democrat activists attempting to disrupt the solemn Flag Day ceremony at the Mt. Kisco American Legion by holding upside down American flags — a disgraceful act that dishonors those who have served and sacrificed for our flag.
“While Republicans and Conservatives gathered with our communities to uplift and honor our shared values, Democrats chose mockery and division. The contrast could not be more stark.
“But this behavior should come as no surprise. Division has been a consistent strategy of the Democratic Party throughout American history. It was the Democratic Party that defended slavery and led this nation into the Civil War. It was the Democrat Party that enforced segregationist policies and fought against civil rights at every turn.
“And today, it is the Democrat Party that continues to pit Americans against each other — urban against rural, race against race, class against class — all in the name of political power.
“The Republican and Conservative Parties stand for unity, strength, and the enduring promise of the American flag. We believe in one nation under God, not a nation torn apart by theatrics and political stunts.
“As I stood shoulder to shoulder with proud Americans this Flag Day, I was reminded of the strength and resolve of our communities. The American people are waking up to the games and the damage caused by today’s radical Democrats. We will continue to stand tall, honor our history, and fight for a future grounded in faith, family, and freedom.”—Braille Diaz, Republican/Conservative Nominee for Westchester County Legislator District 2 and proud American Patriot
Two non-partisan Flag Day wishes came from the Westchester County PBA and Westchester County Clerk Tim Idoni.
“Today, on Flag Day, the Westchester County Police PBA proudly salutes the Stars and Stripes, a symbol of freedom, resilience, and unity. Adopted on June 14, 1777, by the Second Continental Congress, the American flag has flown high through battles, triumphs, and challenges, representing the enduring spirit of our nation. Its 13 stripes honor our original colonies, and its 50 stars stand for the unity of our states, reminding us of the sacrifices made for liberty.
“This Flag Day is extra special as it marks the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army, founded on June 14, 1775. The greatest fighting force the world has ever known, the U.S. Army has defended our nation’s values with unmatched courage and strength, from the Revolutionary War to modern conflicts. We owe our freedom to the soldiers who have served and continue to protect our way of life.
“As we raise Old Glory today, let’s honor the flag’s legacy and the U.S. Army’s historic milestone. To our veterans, active-duty soldiers, and fellow officers who uphold these values daily—thank you,” posted the Westchester PBA.
Idoni wrote, “Happy Flag Day from the Westchester County Clerk’s Office! Today, we honor the symbol of our nation’s unity, resilience, and freedom. Let’s proudly raise the flag high and celebrate the values it represents.”
We close on these two unifying thoughts.
