If you’re getting pulled over in Yonkers and are thinking about not stopping, maybe rethink that…
Dabir Imam found this out the hard way last week while driving his stolen Toyota. This stolen vehicle had been used in a Grand Larceny from a Yonkers store just a day prior, and when Officers spotted him, they knew he was going to try to flee.
Lt Quezada from our Pattern Crimes Unit snuck up on him while he was at a traffic light and deployed our new Stop Stick Tire Deflation Devices used to prevent and terminate pursuits as part of our ongoing pursuit mitigation plan. After seeing the Lieutenant, Imam took off, but it was too late.
This first deployment was successful, taking out a rear tire on Imam’s jalopy. This limited his ability to escape dramatically, as he was soon met by more Officers nearby, where a 2nd set of Stop Sticks was deployed, taking out two more tires.
With nowhere else to go, Imam and his passenger, Eric Zapata, fled on foot into an apartment building where they were quickly apprehended on the roof by our Pattern Crimes Unit.
Imam was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 1st Degree, Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, and Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer 3rd Degree. Zapata was charged with larceny charges related to a previous offense in Yonkers.
No one hurt and two bad guys in jail, even after they tried to run. Successful apprehension thanks to our dedicated Officers and some new equipment to help them do their jobs
