Buy Me Some Peanuts, Cracker Jacks and Tiramasu?

By Eric Wolf Schoen

As a kid I remember going to Yankee Stadium or Shea Stadium with my father and a cooler filled with sandwiches, snacks and sodas. Then as I got older, stadiums grew more money hungry and didn’t allow you to bring home prepared food to the stadium. So we ate the dirty water hot dogs that came out of weirdly shaped metal containers.

If you ate too many of those frankfurters your best friend at the stadium and at home was the bathroom. Those frankfurters tasted so good but, the buns and Guldens mustard our bodies were use to, but something in the franks would upset our tummies.

Then slowly stadiums started to serve other offerings like a pizza wedge created by CYO JOE in Yonkers. Wedge (Italian bread) toasted with tomato sauce and cheese on top. It was a big hit for several summers, but then once again stadiums Realized how profitable food and drink and as they say the rest is history.

My favorite new offering several years ago was the white and light blue iced  big cookie that had Yankees spelled in big letters surrounded with decorations. The other nice thing about the cookie and the other Yankee bakery pastries is that you could take them home and share your game experience with friends and family.

Fast forward to summer 2025 and the offerings will are out of control. Tiramisu, soaked lady fingers between whipped cream. Seeded Bronx bastone billed with mozzarella, Sicilian oregano and pecorino Romano and Parmesan Reggiano (an up to date pizza wedge)  Maine lobster, and add to that special drinks named after Yankee Players and
You and your family will yell out take me out to the ball game frequently.

Prices have not been announced but rest assured that things wont be cheap. Well, at least for the same price as a dirty water hot dog you can get a grilled one. I would go with the grilled one, less stress on the stomach!

Be a Lifeguard, Be a Lifeguard!

Another shortage of lifeguards this summer and it’s not too late to become one. There are Even grants available that will pay for the training at this late date. High School students contact your guidance counselor or Westchester COUNTY Parks and recreation. $22 an hour ain’t bad!

Outside Dining Sheds Fall Down!

They were supposed to be temporary due to Covid. They became trash bins and Places for animals to look for their dinner. Now we hear they are coming down. They served a great need at the time. Glad to see them dissapearing!
