County Legislator Shanae Williams Delivers $20k Grant to Birth from the Earth

County Legislator Shanae Williams, presented a check for $20,000 to Birth from the Earth, a non-profit located at 15 Main Street in Yonkers. Legislator Williams wanted to highlight this women owned business during Women’s History Month, and to support women and families.
Birth from the Earth was founded by Nubia Martin and is a community based organization that empowers and educates women and families with a focus on holistic care. The grant will help families access midwife care.
Since 2020, Birth from the Earth has helped over 60 families access safe home births with qualified midwives—far exceeding their initial goals. Evidence shows that for healthy, low-risk pregnancies, home births can be the safest option, yet insurance often doesn’t fully cover these services. The funding helps fill that critical gap. The Westchester BOL has prioritized equitable maternal healthcare, which should be available to all families in Westchester County.
Nubia Martin founder and CEO of Birth from the Earth, Inc said, “We are excited to be here today -this is Earth Mounds, our location in downtown Yonkers. This amazing funding is going to help access for home birth for families that we serve here to make sure that they’re able to have the birth and the delivery that they want on their terms with midwives providing care.
