Stepinac Alumni Graduate From U.S. Naval Academy

Brandon Coleman
Matthew Desjardin

Brandon Coleman of Yonkers and Matthew Desjardin of White Plains, who graduated from Stepinac High School four years ago, were among the approximate 1,000 men and women of the U.S. Naval Academy’s Class of 2019 who were commissioned as officers during recent graduation ceremonies in Annapolis, Md.

Coleman and Desjardin, who excelled academically and athletically as Stepinac students, earned the Naval Academy’s honor following four years of challenging study and training as Naval Academy midshipmen.

Coleman will begin extensive training as a naval aviator, and Desjardin will join the Marine Corps officer ranks.

At Stepinac, Coleman was a two-sport athlete (football and basketball) and led the Stepinac Crusaders varsity football team to the 2014 CHSFL AAA Championship, an undefeated 12-0 season and its first state crown.

Desjardin was an outstanding member of the Crusaders track and field team, who earned all-county honors in the 2014 long jump category and was named the team’s “most valuable player” all four seasons. He was also a member of Stepinac’s National Honor Society chapter.
