14-year-old Zyon Duprey brought home a Christmas present to the people of Yonkers after winning the 2024 USA Boxing National Championship Belt for his 176-pound weight class in Virginia earlier this month. Zyon fought against 15- and 16-year-old boys and beat them all.

Nicknamed “Baby Tyson,” Zyon is now the #1 ranked junior boxer in the USA at 176 lbs. This means that with continued focus and hard work, Zyon has a chance to go to the 2028 Olympics.

Zyon trains at Yonkers Knockouts, on South Broadway. Mayor Mike Spano came by to wish Zyon luck before the National Championships, and to say that Yonkers is behind you!

John Morrison, Zyon’s trainer and co-founder of Yonkers Knockouts, said, “The success that Zyon is having is great, compared to where he had come from. He was on a bad path, but now he is doing great in school and in the ring; the sky is the limit.”

Zyon and Morrison recently met Mike Tyson, and Mike told the young boxer to “never give up” in or out of the ring. “Zyon fights like Mike Tyson; that’s how he got the nickname, Baby Tyson. He has great boxing skills, but he is also humble and has a great attitude. I think people should look out for him in 2028. He has talent, and I believe in him. We believe in each other.

Earlier this summer, Zyon was honored at City Hall, where he thanked Coach John Morrison and his trainers at Yonkers Knockouts, for teaching him not only the intricacies of boxing, but self-respect and respect for one another, and for putting him on the right path.

Yonkers Knockouts was established as a sanctuary for urban youth uplifting and empowering them and helping them to develop life skills. it specifically targets youth heading down a destructive pathway and assists them in controlling anger and positive ways to respond to challenges they face.
