Saint Joseph’s Auxiliary Members and staff packing Thanksgiving meal items
Saint Joseph’s Medical Center held its Annual Turkey Giveaway providing Thanksgiving meals to families and individuals facing food insecurity. A total of 160 turkeys, along with traditional holiday fixings, were distributed at Saint Joseph’s Landy Court supportive housing development, the Saint Joseph’s Family Health Center outpatient health center, and to Saint Joseph’s mental health patients.
This initiative was made possible through the support of Saint Joseph’s and the dedicated efforts of the Saint Joseph’s Auxiliary, led by Moira Kiernan, Member of the Board of Trustees and President of the Auxiliary of Saint Joseph’s Medical Center. Their commitment ensured the resources were secured and distributed, allowing recipients to enjoy a festive and nutritious meal this holiday season.
The annual Turkey Giveaway underscores Saint Joseph’s deep commitment to addressing the health and well-being of community members. Food insecurity is a significant challenge in Yonkers, and particularly in the 10701 ZIP code. According to Feeding America, approximately 20% of residents in the area experience food insecurity, struggling to afford
or access sufficient and nutritious food. This figure highlights the economic challenges faced by many as the rising cost of food continues to strain household budgets.
