Yonkers charter school’s flag football team remains undefeated

The Charter School of Educational Excellence (CSEE) hosted its Battle of the Hudson Homecoming on October 18, marking an exciting afternoon of athletics and school spirit.

The event’s highlight was the CSEE Owls’ flag football team’s dominant performance, defeating the AECI 2 Charter School from the Bronx with an impressive 41-6 victory. As of October 23, the team had an undefeated record of 5-0.

With such a strong season, the Owls are hopeful for a spot in the City School Sports Association’s championship, set to take place on November 15 at SUNY Maritime College in the Bronx.

“The homecoming game attracted an amazing mix of families, students, neighbors and community leaders who celebrated the Owls’ athletic and academic achievements,” said CSEE athletic director Michael DeSimone. “It was so inspirational seeing the outpouring of support for our students, and the love our athletes felt was immensely motivating.”

In addition to the flag football game, the homecoming featured a girls’ volleyball match. Despite a valiant effort, the CSEE volleyball team fell to AECI 2, but their determination and sportsmanship were evident throughout the game.

The K-12 Charter School of Educational Excellence has 21 sports teams in its middle and high schools. Besides volleyball and flag football, the sports programs include soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, cheerleading and track. Students can participate in several sports through the fall, winter and spring seasons.

The Charter School of Educational Excellence successfully propels student athletes into college, with several former students playing at the NCAA level.
