YPIE Regeneron STEM Scholars Present at WESEF, one of the most rigorous science fairs in the state.
Yonkers Partners in Education students competed in the March 16 Regeneron Westchester Science and Engineering Fair, the largest showcase of outstanding research from high schools in Westchester and Putnam counties.
These students from high schools across Yonkers are part of the YPIE Regeneron STEM Institute, a rigorous three-year program through which students conduct original science research and earn up to 12 college credits. For the first time, YPIE had four students participating in this nationally recognized competition.
More than 650 students from 41 Westchester and Putnam County high schools showcased their multi-year science research projects at Sleepy Hollow High School. Participants exhibited individual and team poster presentations, which were judged by local experts in the fields of life science, physical science, environmental studies, psychology, and engineering.
Four YPIE Regeneron STEM scholars competed in WESEF for the first time: Perpetua Uduba placed second in the category of environmental science, Citlalli Rojas placed fourth in environmental science and won the Stockholm Junior Water Prize, Emily Daly placed fourth in the category of plant science, and Jordan Brannan participated in the category of behavioral science.
The annual YPIE STEM Symposium will be held May 28 at the new YPIE College Zone, during which scholars will present their research in an open poster session.
