Congressman Jamaal Bowman has been caught lying again, this time for falsely implying support from the NY Daily News, which has actually endorsed Democrat George Latimer in the upcoming primary. In a recent TV ad, Bowman takes a quote from a supporter’s op-ed and credits it to the New York Daily News as if it were editorial support. This is the latest example of Bowman’s desperation and dishonesty, adding to his list of false statements. Among the false statements, Bowman has been caught falsely taking credit for the infrastructure bill he voted against, falsely accusing rape victims of lying about their attacks, falsely claiming that he was no longer a member of the extremist DSA, falsely claiming to have brought billions of dollars to the district, and falsely claiming that he pulled a fire alarm “by accident.”
In their endorsement of Latimer, the Daily News called Latimer, ”a responsible steward of Westchester’s finances,” adding “He’s overseen the completion of key infrastructure projects, brought cops and advocates together to make progress on criminal justice reform, strengthened bus service and pressed to produce more affordable housing, including in suburbs where some perceive the term as toxic. He’s a bridge builder at a time when Congress needs far more consensus.”
Bowman’s TV ad (screenshot above) misleadingly uses language from his supporter’s op-ed as if it’s an objective endorsement.
“Jamaal Bowman continues to rely on lies to stoke divisions and distract from his multiple scandals and failure to deliver for his district, but it’s not working. Election Day is fast approaching, and Bowman clearly feels that he can only win by twisting the facts and falsely attributing a statement to a major newspaper in a sad attempt to manipulate the electorate,” said the Latimer Campaign. “Using this tactic is not only unethical, but it’s also a clear attempt to deceive the public and exaggerate his support. This kind of dishonesty is exactly what we’ve come to expect from notorious truth-twister, Jamaal Bowman. NY-16 deserves an honest leader who won’t succumb to misleading tactics.”
Latimer’s grassroots campaign is thriving and gaining momentum, buoyed by recent endorsements from Secretary Hillary Clinton, former Congressmember Mondaire Jones, the NY Daily News, amNY, nearly a dozen local Democratic Committees and countless Democrats across Westchester and the Bronx.
