PHILIPSE MANOR HALL OFFERS TWO FREE MOVIES IN JUNE

Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site and the Friends of Philipse Manor Hall are pleased to present two films for the “Historian & A Movie” series in June. These programs will be held in-person at Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site, 29 Warburton Ave. Yonkers, NY.

On Friday, June 7, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., “Captain Kidd” (1945, 90 minutes) follows notorious pirate William Kidd as he goes on one last raid before rebranding himself as respectable at the turn of the 18th century. Sleepy Hollow Historian Henry Steiner and Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site Manager Michael Lord bring to life the history of the real pirates of the 17th century and the true history behind Captain Kidd, Frederick Philipse and colonial New York.

On Friday, June 21, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., “Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World” (2003, 138 mins) follows a British naval Captain Jack Aubrey and his crew as they experience both boredom and intense battle as they play a game of cat and mouse with a French ship during the Napoleonic Wars. With commentary by historian Chad Johnson of New Windsor Cantonment State Historic Site and historian and librarian Matthew Thorenz, who will reveal the historical accuracies and inaccuracies of the film and how true it is to the novel of the same name by Patrick O’Brian.

Both programs are free and open to the public. Seating is first come, first served. Registration is recommended but not required. Shows start promptly at 7:00 PM. Doors open at 6:00 PM. Museum open 10 am to 5 pm. Popcorn and punch provided by the Friends of Philipse Manor Hall.
