Jack Cornish, Horace Greeley High School, A Con Edison Scholar-Athlete of the Week

Congratulations to Jack Cornish, a senior at Horace Greeley High School, for being named a Con Edison Scholar-Athlete of the week.

Jack is a swimmer on the Greeley Swim Team and competed in the NYS and Federation Championships on 3/1 & 3/2, In the 200 Freestyle, Jack finished 12th overall and in the 500 Freestyle, he was crowned the NYS and Federation Champion with a time of 4:30.93 in All-American Consideration Time. Jack has been an integral part of Greeley’s 3 year dominant run winning sectionals and states. His 500 freestyle time broke a record that has stood since 1989.

Jack is a member of the Badger Swim Club out of Larchmont, where he trains year round. He is a member of the Boys Scouts of America and currently has attained the rank of Life Scout.

“Jack Cornish is an amazing and talented young man and swimmer. He has grown into a caring and committed person in which he displays his skills both on the deck and within the pool. Jack is a distance swimmer. He trains 20,000 yards a day 7 days a week, participates in dryland and weight lifting activities to develop flexibility and strength. After a morning practice in Larchmont, Jack switches gears and heads to Greeley to achieve academic excellence in the classroom.

“Jack is looking to study Molecular and Cellular Biology at Johns Hopkins University in the fall of 2024. His desire to become a trauma surgeon continues to provide the drive needed to keep him focused on his future. He made a plan, he executed his plan and forever will be a champion,” said Coach Margaret Kaplan.

“Jack’s disciplined approach and academic talent allow him to juggle a heavy academic workload along with his intensive swimming schedule – quite impressive! He has successfully taken on some of the most rigorous courses offered at Greeley. His teachers note that he is a real pillar in the classroom, willing to participate and take risks and shining in small group settings. He is thoughtful, listens attentively and often deepens the learning of the class as a whole. He is a motivated student and collaborative teammate who is well-liked, “said Counselor Annalise Curtin.

Jack currently holds a 4.0 GPA
