Former Little League Coach Sentenced to a Decade in Prison for Sex Acts with a Minor

Robert Pope was sentenced to a decade in federal prison today in federal court in White Plains for enticing a 16-year-old to engage in sexual activity, according to the United States District Attorney’s office.

Pope, 32, of Mount Vernon, between at least on or about September 1, 2020, up to and including at least on or about April 11, 2021, POPE communicated with a 16-year-old minor (“Victim-1”) by cellphone and persuaded Victim-1 to meet POPE in person in Westchester County, New York on more than one occasion to engage in sexual activities with POPE. 

On or about June 15, 2021, ROBERT POPE was charged in Westchester County, New York, with three counts of Criminal Sexual Act, including one count of coercion and enticement, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.  The statutory maximum sentence is prescribed by Congress and is provided here for informational purposes only, as any sentencing of the defendant will be determined by the judge.

Pope was also sentenced to four years in prison for state and county criminal charges.

The victims mother found graphic photos and texts and photos on her son’s phone. Pope was well known in Mount Vernon. He owned the Mount Vernon Baseball League and volunteered as a coach for Mt. Vernon High School, and was a democratic district leader.
