Family and friends of Jonathan Maldonado held a vigil Nov. 29 to commemorate the one-year anniversary of his tragic passing. A mass was held Dec. 2, at St. Mary’s Church.

Jonathan’s mother, Nancy Khader Maldonado, said: “It has been a very challenging year for me and my family since the tragic passing of my son Jonathan. This week we held a vigil on Nov. 29, and a one year-mass on Dec. 2. My family would like to thank everybody for all their continued support during this difficult time.

“Whether it was coming out to the vigil or mass, texts, phone calls, or any other way of reaching out, it meant so much. Please continue to keep my family in your prayers. I truly believe my son is watching over me now and pray that his memory will live on forever,” said Khader-Maldonado, who lives in Yonkers, as did her son.

Jonathan Maldonado, a teacher aide in the Yonkers Public schools, was killed Nov. 29, 2017 in Hartsdale while in custody of Greenburgh police. The circumstances surrounding his death are under review, and the family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
