Congratulations to Cole Denson, a senior at Rye Country Day School, for being named Con Edison’s Scholar-Athlete of the week.  Denson plays running back and defensive back for RCDS, and in their recent MIFL Championship game victory (38-6) against Poly Prep, Denson rushed for 203 rushing yards, with 4 touchdowns.

In 2023, Cole has rushed for 1118 yards and has amassed a total of 24597 yards rushing, receiving and returns after punts and kickoffs.  He is the captain of the football, basketball and track & field, and has been a 3-sport athlete all 4 years.

Cole is one of 15 Juniors and Seniors elected as a Peer Leader. The Peer Leaders also teach Life Skills to the 9th grade students. This class focuses on navigating high school years, handling situations in and out of school.

Denson is also a member of the RCDS Math Team, Debate Team and Concert Choir. He has completed 6 AP courses and has a weighted GPA of 4.23.

Recruited by several Ivy League Schools, Cole has decided on attending Duke University and will attempt to “walk on” to the football team.

“As a student of color who is an incredible leader and mentor to others at our school, Cole’s journey is marked by consistent social maturity, academic excellence, athletic prowess, and active participation in diverse extracurriculars. He approaches all his commitments with enthusiasm and consistently goes above and beyond expectations, not only for personal success but also for the benefit of his peers.

“In the classroom, Cole has a deep commitment and engagement with academics. His ability to foster camaraderie and unity extends to all his extracurricular involvements. Because of his own background and diverse interests, Cole possesses a remarkable talent for bringing individuals of varying backgrounds, interests, and grade levels together to achieve common goals.

“Younger students are drawn to him due to his genuine investment in their growth. Cole’s leadership is most evident in his role as a three-sport Varsity captain. Cole is a fierce competitor, not for individual glory but because he wants to succeed for his team and his broader community. Throughout his time at RCDS we have seen Cole mature and embrace the responsibilities of an upperclassman, and now as a clear leader in our school. He takes this honor seriously but will never boast about positions or titles that he carries. He does what he does because he cares. He cares about always being his best self, and he cares about collective achievement. His unique blend of determination, humor, and leadership qualities makes him an exceptional individual who undoubtedly leaves a positive impact on those around him,” writes Aimee Rincon, Associate Director of College Counseling, Rye Country Day School.
