Saunders High School Principal Honored With YouScience Innovator Educator Award

Retiring Saunders Trade & Technical High School Principal Steve Mazzola

Steven Mazzola, Principal at Saunders Trades and Technical High School in Yonkers, NY has been named as a recipient of the inaugural YouScience® Innovative Educator Award. Mr. Mazzola won due to his exceptional contributions in guiding and inspiring Yonkers’ students to explore their aptitudes and make informed decisions about their futures.
With over 30 years of experience in education, Principal Steven Mazzola has been a driving force at Saunders Trades and Technical High School, where he has served as principal for nearly 20 years.

Under his leadership, the school has consistently achieved graduation rates of 94-98% or higher. Christina Nola, Assistant Principal of Saunders Trades and Technical High School, expressed her delight at the acknowledgement of Mazzola’s outstanding work, stating, “Mr. Mazzola is the personification of a true educational warrior! Under his nearly 20-year tenure as Principal of Saunders Trades and Technical High School, Mr. Mazzola challenged all staff and students to maximize their full potential. Leading by example, he never stopped loving the classroom or lost his passion for teaching, and he maintained his role as teacher in his capacity as Principal. He expanded the 112 years of traditions and maintained the legacy of what being a part of the Saunders family is about. At the helm, Mr. Mazzola fostered relationships with parents, staff, and students—making Saunders a second home where every member is loved, appreciated, and respected.”
Principal Mazzola is retiring after this school year. In a final message, he wrote I do not take for granted the honor to be part of something much bigger than myself. The old proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child” is the epitome of who Saunders is. The teachers, staff, alumni, parents and of course the students are the sparkplug that makes this community engine work sucessfully. It is your dedication to the oldest trades school in New York that has put Saunders on the educational map of this nation.”
Congratulations and best wishes in your retirement.
