Stepinac Student from Yonkers Gets a Thrill of a Lifetime on Broadway Stage

Stepinac High School’s Calvin Lindo (Class of ’24) of Yonkers, pictured above, had the thrill of a lifetime as one the best musical theater performers in the nation’s high schools who was honored at the 2023 Jimmy Awards ceremony held at the iconic Minskoff Theatre on Broadway.

Calvin, who won the 2023 Roger Rees Best Leading Actor Award for his performance as Frankie Valli in Stepinac Theatre’s National High School Premiere of Jersey Boys, was the only contestant for The Jimmy Awards who was interviewed in the WABC-TV Eyewitness segment (link below) that aired on the eve of awards ceremony. When he saw his name in lights on Broadway, he exclaimed on camera: “I think that this is a big jump towards Broadway!”

Calvin was one of an elite group of about 100 talented contestants–out of more than 140,000 finalists from across the country– who vied for the top honor.

Reflecting on his experience, he said: “The Jimmy’s National High School Theatre Awards is a step towards realizing my dream of becoming a musical theatre actor on Broadway. I have had the opportunity of a lifetime studying my craft for a week at the Julliard School and learning from professional Broadway actors, directors, and choreographers. It has been a dream come true! I will always cherish this opportunity of meeting new friends from across the country who share my same passion and drive. And I will never forget stepping onto the Minskoff Theatre stage for the first time!”
