Doubles Down on Accusations that Johnson Knew About Anand Singh YouTube Video
By Dan Murphy
Yonkers City Councilmember Shanae Williams continued her attack on County Legislator Christopher Johnson, and renewed her claims that Johnson knew about a YouTube video showing Anand Singh, a staffer working for the Westchester Board of Legislators, attempting to set up a sexual encounter with someone that he thought was a 14-year old girl.
Johnson, who serves as the Majority Leader, 2nd in charge for the democratic super majority on the BOL, has stated that he did not know about Singh until the video of Singh’s graphic, sexual messages and phone calls to the decoy were released back on YouTube on April 11.
The incident between Singh and the decoy were Livestreamed in December 2022, but were not posted until April.
“I am happy to know that the FBI and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office is now investigating former Westchester Board of Legislator employee who was caught preying on a 14-year-old girl. I am also proud that my public statement calling for an investigation into Majority Leader Johnson regarding this matter lead to the leadership of the County Board of Legislators to act and be transparent with the public,” said Williams, who is challenging Johnson in a democratic primary for county legislator, 16th district.
“Instead of immediately denouncing the gross misconduct of his employee, Majority Leader Johnson chose to lie and point the finger at his colleagues instead. Denying any knowledge of his staffer’s wrongdoing until thirty minutes before he was terminated is an egregious falsehood.
“What is most concerning and frankly scary is that Majority Leader Johnson works for the Yonkers Board of Education and has unfettered access to our children. To know that he thinks it is okay to compare a DWI incident to the rapacious behavior of a sexual predator is utterly disgusting.
“Majority Leader Johnson is either a bad liar or a blatant fool. Millions of people watched the livestream video in December 2022 and countless Westchester residents recognized the employee and reported it to the Legislators’ offices. How is it that his colleagues knew about the incident months before but as the Majority Leader he claimed to have heard nothing about it? To be completely unaware of such egregious offenses to children, safety and society within his own office, shows Leader Johnson is an absent, disconnected official that is unfit for office.
“We need a Leader who champions our communities and families; that begins with protecting our children. I could not be more ashamed of Leader Johnson’s actions to engage in political divisiveness instead of what is right. The time is now to bring about positive change and restore integrity at the top of the Board of Legislators,” said Williams.
Johnson in his response to Williams earlier this week, said that the hiring and firing of staff including Singh was “the sole responsibility” of the BOL Chair Catherine Borgia.
Borgia then issued a video statement in which she said that once she became aware of the video, she contacted the Westchester County Police. Borgia did not say when she became aware of the video.
Westchester County DA, and the FBI, are investigating this matter.
