Khader Holds Successful Backpack to School Drive

Last November, 21-year old Jonathan Maldonado, died after a confrontation with Greenburgh police which still has more questions than answers. Maldonado was chased from a Best Buy store, where he eventually passed away after a chase on foot.

Maldonado was the nephew of City Council President Mike Khader, who this school year, held a back to school supplies drive for Yonkers students. “I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the tremendous success of our back to school supply drive. I was both touched and inspired by the support we received with the drive. With your help, we were able to provide over 250 students with backpacks and school supplies. I would like to extend a special recognition to Empress Emergency Medical Services, Catholic Charities of Westchester, Westriver Pharmacy, Central Park Dental, Dr. Ammir Rabadi and Yonkers Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Edwin  Quezada for their support. I am proud of what we were able to accomplish with this drive, and wish all Yonkers students and families a great return to school.”

“As the summer winds down, I am excited by the upcoming legislative session. In the coming months, we have a lot of work ahead of us, and will be holding regular public meetings to evaluate city services, promote transparency, and optimize your city government.”
