Ruth Walter Launches Bid To Make County Government More Accountable to Community Needs; Vows to ‘Deliver Results for Residents who have been Under-represented.’ With Campaign Rematch, Walter Joins a Growing Chorus of Voters Unhappy with the Lack of Leadership Under Current Representative
Former County Legislator Ruth Walter has announced her candidacy for Westchester County Legislative District 15.
A local small business owner, Ruth Walter served as County Legislator representing the district from 2020 – 2022. Unhappy with the direction and lack of focus Jimmy Nolan has paid to local issues, Walter plans to be more accessible if re-elected.
“For the past year, our communities have been under-represented in their local representative. The County Board isn’t Albany and it isn’t Washington, D.C. We need someone who will focus on the everyday issues we face in Yonkers, Bronxville, Eastchester, Tuckahoe, and Mount Vernon, not whatever issue of the day garners the most attention,” said Ruth Walter.
“As Legislator, I was able to deliver results for our communities. We advocated for flood relief along the Bronx River, supported small business throughout the pandemic, brought over $330,000 in contracts to local non-profits, and more. Innovative solutions I championed like senior fitness parks, fast-fill bottle refill stations and noise cameras will make Westchester more livable and cleaner for all residents. We also fought to decrease the ever-high taxes that our Westchester residents face. These are the issues I care about and results I have and will continue to deliver,” explained Ruth Walter.
Ruth Walter grew up in Westchester as the youngest of eight children. As the daughter of a journalist and a public-school teacher, the importance of public service and community involvement were instilled in her at a young age. After graduating college, Ruth began her career as an investment analyst for a multinational investment firm. She went on to coordinate technology operations for several companies, including leading Y2K digital readiness operations for a regional department store chain, and creating the digital systems and employee training as a local shop owner.
Ruth and her husband own Dobbs & Bishop Fine Cheese, a mom-and-pop shop that is a vibrant part of the Bronxville community and continues to thrive in the challenging retail environment. Over the past thirteen years, the shop has employed more than 125 people from neighboring communities and generated more than $6 million in economic activity.
In addition to previously serving as County Legislator, Ruth has served on many local non-profit Boards, including Groundwork Hudson Valley, Foundation for Yonkers Public Library, Bronx River Parkway Reservation Conservancy. As Chair of the Westchester County Cybersecurity Task force, Ruth has highlighted the growing threat to our digital lives. She formerly served as the President of the Bronxville Library Board of Trustees and as the Bronxville Village Justice Court Clerk. Ruth Walter is active in Aquehung, the Yonkers Democratic Women’s Club, Bronxville Rotary and Zonta, an international organization for women and girls.
