Have They Finished the Vote for Speaker?

By Eric Wolf Schoen

Democracy was in action last weekend in Washington, D.C. Screw the people. Screw the Congressmen and their families. They came to see their loved ones sworn in. Normally a 2-3 hour event. But some Republicans were not happy with candidate Kevin McCarty, so 15, yes 15 votes were taken before he won the Speakership.

First time this happened in 500 years. And here, we thought Republicans were going to come in with a bang. Deal with all the issues Democrats didn’t like. My guess is the Republicans wanted to fill hotels which normally would have been empty. It’s good for the economy.

Yes, if your family doesn’t have babies and young children in school and elderly relatives in town for this special Occasion, But this is something they will witness once in a lifetime. Instead of witnessing the swearing in, they stayed in a hotel room for 4 days waiting for McCarthy to gather the necessary votes. They had to be at the Speaker’s beck and call.

Moral of the story ? Mr. McCarthy, count your votes before you drag families with children to our Nation’s Capitol. The Democrats just sat back and enjoyed the Republican chaos. The kids missed school and the the representatives have elderly relatives who may have difficulty traveling.

And what does the vote say? If it was one vote or two, no big deal. But 15 votes. Means for the next two years we will have ‘trouble in River City’ aKa Washington.

George Santos

We had Richard Blumenthal lie about his military background on the way to Congress from Connecticut (He was Attorney General before Congress). He’s still in office. Bruce Caputo who represented Yonkers lied about his military service and he was forced to resign from Congress.

Double standard. And now we have George Santos from Long Island who lied just about everything.
I’ll tell you about some of Santos lies shortly. How do these men and woman get elected to office. Doesn’t their opponent check them out. Years ago it was a hard thing thing to check someone’s background, but with the internet and computers it’s a piece of cake today. And people react violently and want the liar out of office

Santos lies: said he went to Horace Mann School and they have no record of his attendance and neither does Baruch College where he claimed to have gotten a degree. Goldman Sachs and Citigroup where he claimed to have worked and neither has any record of him.

He claimed to own 13 properties which he does not. He said he was Jewish and admitted he was Catholic. He said he was Jewish and when the Post questioned him said he was Catholic. Are your nauseous at this guys lies yet?

He does win the prize for most lies by a Congressman elect. So how do we get this criminal out of office. Both the Speaker and the leader of the minority Democrats should be calling for his resignation. He should not be assigned an office in the Capitol nor district and they should take away his budget. Let him work in the hallway. Residents of his district should continue their boycotts ferociously.
George Santos is in the swamp. Isn’t that the kind of elected official they want to get rid of! And now we hear he is wanted in Brazil. Oy!

My Congressman, Jamaal Bowman

So Jamaal Bowman, Congressman for the North Bronx and Southern WESTCHESTER including Yonkers got re-elected by a large margin. This despite our newspaper and me personally going after him for his position on the issues, particularly his no vote on the the Infrastructure Bill. Time for a truce.

I hope to have him on my radio show and discuss with him some of my concerns about some of the positions he has taken. I want to encourage him to visit events in his district more and improve constituent services more including to Yonkers residents.

To the winner goes the spoils. If you can’t beat him join him the old expression goes. I wish Congressman Jamaal Bowman good luck and many victories as he goes on to a second term,

Barbara Walters
I remember sitting in the living room as a child watching the Today Show with Hugh Downes and Barbara Walter’s at the anchor table. We lost a premier journalist with the death of Barbara Walters this week.
Barbara was cut and dry. She didn’t in her early years wear flashy clothes. She was sitting next to Hugh Downes, not America’s flashiest anchor nor dresser. They presented the news cut and dry by today’s standards.

The best salute to Barbara was a few years ago when on her baby, The View they brought out all of the women whose careers she influenced. There must have been 50 top female journalists. She was someone special, and influenced so many female journalists on television today.

Sussman vs. the Term limit abolitionists

So happy that Michael Sussman is representing those who want to keep term limits for Mayor and City Council offices. Let’s just say Michael has a lot of experience in dealing with issues related to our fair city!

Masks

So everyone is masking up again. Far be it from me to tell you what to do. But I think I would not be suffering from the sniffles if I had worn a mask, particularly in public places with a lot of people.
