Yonkers Police arrest, charge 19-year-old in shooting of 15-year-old

On Wednesday, October 26th, at approximately 10:24 PM, members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to the area of 290 Woodworth Avenue on a report of a male having been shot. Upon arrival officers located a 15-year-old victim suffering from gunshot wounds to his lower body; he was transported to a local area trauma center in stable condition.

Investigation yielded that the victim was in front of location with several others when a suspect approached, displayed a handgun, and fired at least three gunshots in their direction, striking the victim at least two times. The suspect then fled the scene. Over the next seven days, Detectives continuously worked the case and developed information as to the identity of the male suspect; he was apprehended yesterday at a residence in the City of Yonkers.

Joseph TEJERA, a 19-year-old resident of Yonkers, was arrested by Squad 3 Detectives and booked on charges including attempted murder and weapons possession; he is expected to be arraigned later today. Investigators are continuing to develop information as to the nature of the motive; additional information may be released as it becomes available.

NOTE: Booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
