On Thursday, June 19th the Charter School of Educational Excellence baseball and soccer teams took a visit to Yonkers City Hall to celebrate their championship seasons. This spring, the Owls baseball and soccer teams won the CSAA Junior High School League Championships.
As part of their celebration, they took a trip to City Hall where they met with Deputy Mayor Jim Cavanaugh. While meeting with the Deputy Mayor, he emphasized to our student-athletes the importance that athletics play in preparing students for the next level of life! CSEE Athletic Director, Michael DeSimone said, “This is a great experience for our student-athletes. They have the opportunity to see the support that the City of Yonkers provides them with, as well as a chance to learn about government within their community.”
DeSimone went on to say,” A lot of people see the trophies and awards that these students come home with, but what many people do not see is the hard work and the high standards that our student-athletes have to meet in order to participate in athletics at CSEE. On top of maintaining an 80 average, our students are provided with daily progress reports that need to be handed in prior to every practice. They worked hard on the field all season and even harder in the classrooms.”
The Owls also met with City Councilwoman Corazon Pineda-Isaac.
