AOC Endorses Biaggi for Congress in NY-17

“As a State Senator… Alessandra was able to break through and deliver a series of progressive wins for New York State”

On June 7, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced her endorsement of State Senator Alessandra Biaggi for Congress in New York’s 17th District, which covers all of Rockland and Putnam Counties and parts of Westchester and Dutchess Counties. The district includes Representative Ocasio-Cortez’ hometown of Yorktown Heights. Senator Biaggi is running in the newly drawn district against DCCC Chair Sean Patrick Maloney. In 2018, Senator Biaggi ran and won an insurgent campaign against a GOP-allied Democrat in the State Senate, unseating Jeff Klein, one of the most powerful men in Albany

“I’m so proud to endorse Alessandra Biaggi for Congress in New York’s 17th district. As a State Senator, Alessandra arrived in Albany to a government plagued by gridlock. Through hard work, Alessandra was able to break through and deliver a series of progressive wins for New York State. Now, she’s ready to take her leadership to Congress where I know she’ll continue fighting for working people. We can count on her to stand with our movement on critical issues such as abortion rights, championing the Green New Deal and Medicare for All, and fighting to raise the minimum wage. We have an incredible opportunity to continue building progressive power by electing Alessandra,” Rep. Ocasio-Cortez said.

“In 2018 when I stood up to the establishment, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s support helped me win against all odds — and I am honored to have her support once again. Representative Ocasio-Cortez’s backing makes clear we’re the campaign that stands for working people and against DC corruption and cronyism. I’ve lived in Westchester my entire life, and we want a champion in Congress that will fight for all of us — not a corporate Democrat like Sean Patrick Maloney who puts his donors interests ahead of ours. Representative Ocasio-Cortez and I know our party will be strongest when Democrats stop letting corporate donors set the political agenda and start fighting for working people — and that’s why I am thrilled she is backing our campaign.” said State Senator and Democratic Congressional Candidate for NY-17 Alessandra Biaggi.

Senator Biaggi is a Democratic State Senator and a proven winner. In 2018, she defeated the powerful head of the group that kept Republicans in power to put Democrats back in control of New York’s State Senate. Since taking office, Senator Biaggi has been working to create a more equitable New York, delivering wins for working families and paving the way for progressive Democrats to run for office and win. Senator Biaggi was previously running for NY-3 until Westchester County was removed from that district.
