The Alliance for Safe Kids held its eighth annual Save A Life Forum on March 18 at Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak, with 500 community members walking away feeling empowered. Save A Life is a program designed to inform and empower high school students and adults to be community allies and first responders to support teens and families in crisis.

National keynote speaker Dr. Michael Fowlin combined his acting talents and psychology training to create an atmosphere of worldwide inclusion toward all people. Through his portrayal of different characters, he led the audience to see the beauty within themselves and others, while also celebrating and being accepting toward the differences and experiences of others. The attendees also gain important life skills at the presentations and workshops, and made many connections with area resources at the interactive exhibit hall.

“Save A Life is truly a community effort, and we could not have produced an event like this without the support of our sponsors, volunteers, workshop presenters, and exhibitors,” said Liz Talbert, executive director. “It was wonderful to empower our Community.”

Alliance for Safe Kids offered this complimentary forum to the greater northern Westchester community with help from sponsors WestMed Medical Group, Yorktown Lions, Jefferson Valley Mall, Putnam County Savings Bank, Yorktown Athletic Club, Yorktown Chamber of Commerce, Yorktown High School PTSA, Angle Technology, Burger King, Events To Remember, Mildred E. Strang Middle School PTA, Parents for Lakeland, Shrub Oak Athletic Club, State Farm George Lucciola, Northern Westchester Examiner, Yorktown News; and Friend of ASK: AFC Urgent Care, Lakeview Health, and The Tooth Mover.

Due to the continued growth and popularity of Save A Life, Alliance for Safe Kids is now presenting the Save A Life Mini Series for middle school students, adults, and members of the community. On Tuesday, April 24, local law enforcement and professionals in the community will be leading a forum on underage drinking at the French Hill School Building in Yorktown.
