Schools to Reopen Jan 3, but decision may be made to go remote, final decision on Friday Dec. 31
The Yonkers Public Schools has been providing its students and staff free COVID-19 Rapid Tests for students and staff on December 29 and 30, and upcoming on Sunday Jan 2, the day before the YPS is set to reopen after the holidays on January 3, 2022.
While the current plan is for the Yonkers Public Schools to return to School Safely on Monday, January 3, 2022, the recent increases in COVID cases has resulted in the YPS to take a final look at the numbers on Friday Dec. 31 to determine if the YPS should start the new year with remote learning.
“The positivity rate is through the roof right now. You know, what we are seeing at our centers and what we are seeing with the data the mayor receives from Westchester County. So, I want our families to know that if we need to open schools using remote learning as a modality, we will try to make a decision by tomorrow so that everybody prepares,” said YPS Superintendent Dr. Edwin Quezada.
For those students and staff who need to be tested on Jan. 2, the services will be provided at three YPS schools between the hourse of 10am-1pm.
