Congressman Bowman to Host Virtual Town Hall About Federal Resources Available from Hurricane IDA Impacts

Rep. Jamaal Bowman

Rep. Jamaal Bowman will host a virtual town hall on Tuesday, September 14th at 6 p.m. ET for NY-16 constituents to learn about how to access federal relief while dealing with the impacts of Hurricane Ida. In response to Hurricane Ida, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is able to provide federal relief to individuals, households, businesses, schools, non-profits, and localities in the district. This assistance was made possible by President Biden’s approval of Governor Hochul’s request for a Major Disaster Declaration, something Rep. Bowman’s office had strongly supported in a bipartisan and bicameral letter to President Biden shortly after Hurrican Ida flooded many parts of Rep. Bowman’s 16th district, including Yonkers and Mamaroneck.

The additional declaration allowed more FEMA resources to be made available to New York for help with recovery efforts from damage caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida, including direct relief for individuals and small businesses. “The needs of New Yorkers continue to grow, and we must make sure that we receive the largest amount of federal assistance possible,” said Bowman.

On the Zoom call will be Rep. Jamaal Bowman, Dennis Delborgo, Director of the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) for Westchester County, New York, Yokarina Duarte, Director for Intergovernmental Relations, NYC Office of Emergency Management, and Stephanie Dunn Ashley, American Red Cross Metro New York North.
